WHAT ARE THE BALLOONS MADE OF?
Balloons are made of durable, highly resistant and high cord curtain materials and stainless steel ropes. Baskets are made of traditional straws.
HOW IS THE BALLOON DIRECTED?
Balloons cannot be directed. However, different air layers can be transited through lifting up and down the balloon and with the help of winds from different directions a limited direction may be possible. This method is used while landing the balloon. This is like a 3D under way. The pilot lifts up and down the balloon by changing the air temperature.
WHAT IS THE ALTITUDE OF BALLOON FLIGHTS?
Balloon operators want to fly at lower altitudes in order to show every detail. Generally balloon flights start from tree height and goes up to thousands of feet. The altitude depends on daily weather conditions. The limits determined by the Civil Aviation authority are maximum 6000 feet in weekdays and 8000 feet at weekends.
HOW BIG IS THE AREA OF FLIGHT?
Most of the flights are carried out in an area of 5 - 25 kms, but this distance depends on daily weather conditions because balloons move in accordance with the direction and speed of the wind. Sometimes the balloon is landed to the area of departure with the impact of the wind. As the balloon rises, the speed of the wind may increase.
HOW LONG IS THE FLIGHT TIME?
Generally the flight time is 1 hour but it may change. Real flight time depends on weather conditions, flight direction and the availability of landing area. Only your pilot determines the best flight time.
WHAT CAN WE SEE AND HEAR DURING THE FLIGHT?
The best and most romantic way of watching the land surface from above is the most traditional way of flight: balloons. Moving during the flight is a great pleasure because the balloon flight depends on daily weather conditions. Therefore, you can see everything in your point of view. During the flight you can see the differences and textures on land surface which you cannot see in anyway. You cannot observe the sky and land surface in this way except balloon flight. During the flight you can hear dog barking, bird singing and even you can talk to people. Only the noise of propane gas increasing the air temperature of the balloon break the silence.
WHAT DO PEOPLE FEEL DURING THE FLIGHT?
You don't feel any shock or wind after departure because the balloon moves through air streams. The basket is hanged on the air mass. Under flight conditions, there is nothing shaking the basket. In other words, the movement you feel is less than the movement in an elevator. The only thing you feel when you fly over trees in the air is tranquility. There is almost no fear of heights and if our guests choose to do so, we fly at lower altitudes. Some of our guests define their feelings as peaceful and romantic while some others as polite and peaceful.
WHAT TO BRING TO THE FLIGHT?
Do not forget to bring and charge your cameras. It is a pleasure for our staff to take your photos during the flight. Moreover, you may need sun glasses and hats during the flight.
WHEN TO FLY?
We fly in the morning while sun rising because this time is the best time for a comfortable and balanced flight, soft landing and maximum lifting force. This time is also the best time for taking photos. The beauty of sun rise, colors and contrasts are wonderful.
HOW LONG DOES THE FLIGHT TAKE?
Under normal conditions we fly for 1,5 hours in Deluxe Programme and 1 hour in Standard Programme. However, the time between your transfer to the flight area and transfer back to your residence takes 3-4 hours. In other words, you have enough time to enjoy in Cappadocia.
WHAT IF THE FLIGHT IS CANCELLED DUE TO WEATHER CONDITIONS?
Please do not forget that hot air balloons depend on weather conditions. There are some factors we have to consider before making flight decision. Sunny and clear weather do not provide necessary conditions for flight. For a successful flight, some delays may occur. We are aware that cancellation disappoints you, but safety must be the priority. Flight decision is made by the Slot Services Center associated with General Directorate of Civil Aviation. Slot Services Center shares daily flight decisions via its website shm.kapadokya.edu.tr.
HOW IS THE WEATHER IN THE AIR?
Balloons do not fly at altitudes making the guests feel temperature changes. You don't feel good during the flight thanks to the systems increasing air temperature. The weather making you feel cold on the ground do not make you feel cold in the balloon even in a cold weather because the balloon in the air becomes a part of the wind.
WHAT ARE THE LEGAL RULES OF BALLOON FLIGHT?
All controls in this area are done by the Turkish Civil Aviation Authority and the flight certificates of all balloons are controlled by authorities.
WHO CAN FLY?
People between 6 and 90 years can fly. However, the passengers should be able to stand in the balloon during the flight, they should be able to get on and off the basket and understand and carry out safety regulations.
WHO SHOULD NOT FLY?
• People with a recent surgery
• People with serious waist and hip pain
• Pregnant women
• People with fragile bone structure
• Children under 6 years
• People in need of crutch support
• People with casts
• Nonsane people
• People having an unsuitable physical condition for landing position (approximately 5 min horse rider position)
If you have any questions except all these, please consult to your medical doctor.
WHAT TO WEAR?
You should prefer casual wear. You may need a sweater or coat heating you in the morning but you can wear off at a later time. We recommend you to prefer sneakers. If you don't want to be influenced by our heating systems in the balloon, you may have a hat. Shortly, you can wear in a way to feel comfortable. We don't recommend slippers and sandals. Rugging up is always the best wearing method.
WHAT IF I FEAR OF HEIGHTS?
Standing in a basket hanging to a balloon and standing on the cliff edge or on the roof of a high building are not the same. There is no basic line for measuring the altitude in the balloon. In the first place, this measurement causes psychological dizziness. Moreover, while flying, you don't feel the wind and movement. With the experience of long years, we can say that the most nervous passengers fearing of heights do not have any problems right after departure and during the flight.
WHY ARE BALLOON FLIGHTS EXPENSIVE?
• Hot air balloons are imported. The material used in balloon construction has lifetime. The lifetime of balloons depend on this material and after certain hours the balloon requires serious reparation or renewal. • Propane gas is used in hot air balloons. The price of propane depends on petroleum. • Being a legal operator is expensive. Obeying the rules of Civil Aviation involves insurances, approved and certificated devices, certificated services, several license costs, etc.
